Transportation
In Hau Giang, there are two national routes across the area (1A National Highway and 61 National Highway) with total length of 81.7 km. Besides, there are two other national roads which are about to start, named South Hau river and Quan Lo – Phung Hiep. The provincial transport system has 10 routes with a total length of over 145.5 km, of which asphalted road is accounted for 47.4%, macadam 20.3% and pathways. The road system of district, commune and town level is more than 3, 253km, of which only over 6km of asphalted concrete road, 736km of cemented concrete road, over 288km asphalted road, 936.78 km of macadam road and the rest is pathway of about 1, 285.2km.
In general, there has been a wide road system over the province though the road quality is low and most of roads are small and narrow.
+ Waterway: There are 4 routes of riverway managed by the Riverway Management Administration, including Xang Xa No river, Cai Nhuc river, Cai Tu river and Xang Quan Lo - Phung Hiep river, with total length of 106 km. There are 5 routes of channel type IV managed by the province with a total length of 218.5 km and the rest is managed by districts. With such a waterway system, it is very convenient for transport of goods and passengers by waterway.
Communication
The system of local post offices increases rapidly: 27 post offices in 2000, 41 post offices in 2001, 52 post offices in 2002 and 59 post offices in 2003. At present, there are 15 electronic switch stations over the province and the number of telephones has been increasing very fast over recent years. There were 10.453 telephones in 2000, 14, 144 telephones in 2001, 17, 184 telephones in 2002, and 21, 060 telephones in 2003. However, the average telephone per head is low in Hau Giang. Turnover from post-office business is rapidly growing but with small-scale (in 2000: VND 10, 983 million, in 2001: VND 14, 658 million, in 2002: VND 17, 620 million and in 2003: VND 33, 902 million) .
